Why does the Pie extension request permission to "Read and change your data on all websites" and "Manage your apps, extensions, and themes"?
Read and change your data on all websites
All ad-blocking extensions need the “read and change data” permission to function. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to remove ads from the websites you visit. This permission is widely used and common for many popular browser extensions, including Grammarly, 1Password, and cash back tools. This is also true for extensions across all browsers like Firefox and Safari.
We only collect the data necessary to provide our service, and we’ll never sell your data. That commitment is outlined in our privacy policy and there are laws against violating this.
Manage your apps, extensions, and themes
This allows Pie to detect when users have another extension that may interfere with Pie's abilities to block ads or give rewards, such as another ad blocker, and gives the user the option to disable them. Pie never manages your extensions without your consent.
