Does Pie override existing affiliate cookies?

No, Pie does not override referrals from affiliate links of other publishers/creators.

We believe creators and publishers who direct traffic to merchants deserve the credit for their referrals. Since most major affiliate networks operate on last click attribution, we have made it so Pie will always stand down to existing affiliate tags for 7 days.

What this means for you

If you have previously clicked an affiliate link (while Pie was installed and active) from another partner (such as a creator, website, shopping extension, etc) in the past week:

  • Pie will not prompt you to activate cash back on partnered stores
  • Manual Cash Back activation button will be disabled
  • If you use Pie Shopping and a partnered store has coupons, we will still let you apply them but we will not affiliate tag (therefore we will not override any existing cookie)

Stand down policies have existed for almost every major affiliate network for years, but typically only covered the same shopping session. At Pie, we believe there's still major room for improvement and we want to lead that change.

We hope other shopping extensions will follow.

Please note: Due to limitations with mobile Safari extensions, we are not able to implement stand down as effectively on mobile Safari. We do our best to stand down when possible. Because most affiliate referrals originate in apps (such as YouTube), this will typically not be a problem. Pie cannot run inside in-app browsers, where these referrals take place. If you decide to check out within Safari, Pie will make every effort to identify a previously generated affiliate link using the available information. However, it's possible that the link was created in a context that Pie cannot access.
